3 Crystals is one of the later “early maps” by David Münnich. Unlike in some of his earlier works such as Traptemple or Skaarj City, in this map, perhaps for the first time, DavidM stopped his habit of using almost exclusively white lights to illuminate his scenes and there has also been a marginal improvement on the quality of his architecture. This however concludes the improvements as the issue of an overly simple story lacking any depth and detail is still present, and the translator messages, instead of helping the immersion in the world, are simply concrete tips for the player as to what exactly to do – kind of like an author’s commentary. When the goal (collecting 3 crystals on the top of a tower) is achieved, there is also the boring backtracking to the very beginning of the map. The few pathetic spawned enemies (krall) do not make this rush back any more interesting. In fact, you can do the whole thing without engaging in a single fight. In other words, the difficulty of the map is non-existent.
