A new engine under the old stones

One Sunday afternoon, I finally pulled myself together and started vibe coding the Unreal Archives rebuild I had been putting off for far too long. The old WordPress site had served us faithfully, but underneath its familiar brickwork it had become ancient, slow, fragile, and increasingly difficult to maintain. The aim of this …

A big thank you again

…for all the recent donations that will relieve me from paying my VPS bills for several months. I wish I had time to do more (uploading my backlog of new releases, etc.), but I appreciate the appreciation received for no more than simply keeping the site alive. Rest assured that it remains important for me to do so, even after …

A Big Thank You

In recent months there has been a surge in donations for our hosting fees - a surge, I say, compared to virtually no donations for the previous 6-7 years. :) Not that any is expected, of course. I will keep running the site as long as it is able to run on the outdated technologies back from 2013 that it is based on. After that, …

Savage Land demo

Earlier this month Red Nemesis released a new demo called Savage Land, incorporating elements of Residual Decay and Battle for Na Pali. With a bit of a delay, the demo is now hosted here on Unreal Archives too.

General update

You might have noticed that the site was unavailable for a few hours today - this is due to having to move to a more up to date server installation. Unfortunately this does not mean any new updates to the site itself. This means the forums are still offline and there won't be new map uploads in the near future unless you …

Registrations working again

Just a heads up to anyone who tried to register in the last months but did not receive the confirmation email: the issue should be resolved now and you can request a password reminder or create a new account if you like. Sorry it take so long to resolve, but I can only work on this site in my limited free time.

Resolving server issues

Unfortunately we have had a lengthy downtime in the past day or so due to an I/O issue at our VPS provider. Fortunately we managed to back up all data in time and move it over to a temporary server so we are back online. A new VPS service has been picked and so far I am very happy with its performance. The new, hopefully final …

Please Vote

We are very delighted to see the download counter increasing on a daily basis. As of this writing, we have just hit 4400. We would like to encourage everyone to come back time to time and do a quick rating on the maps played - it takes merely a click of a button but for the quality of the site it will make a big difference!

Various updates

Did you know that we have a FB page? Then now you do. Go check it out. You may have also noticed the like button at the feet of the Krall up there… On another note, I finally continued the map uploads, more than 10 this week, so feel free look around and see if there is something Unreal you haven’t played yet!

Support Us

We updated our Mission Statement page with info on how to support us, in case it crossed anybody’s mind. It is fairly straightforward: simply send any amount to our hosting provider’s PayPal account to increase our pre-paid balance for hosting fees. Full details on the Misson Statement page.

Record downloads

With map downloads little short of 20 GB in size, January has been our busiest month to date. Good to see you guys are using the site!

New Spatial Fear Download

There have been reports that the Spatial Fear installer crashes on 64-bit systems making it impossible to play the game. I recently got my hands on an extracted version so I uploaded it and updated the Spatial Fear info page. Just download, unpack and copy the directory structure into your Unreal Tournament folder.

Season's Greetings

Waiting in the airport on Christmas Eve I had nothing better to do so I took this opportunity to wish all Unreal players the best possible Christmas and a New Year rich in new SP map releases. Personally I play some Unreal SP maps (or the whole original game) every year in the winter holiday season when I am not busy eating epic …

Just a small site update: release dates are now included in the small map info boxes throughout the site, and a new list view of maps ordered by release date is also available from now on.

Ratings open for everyone

Just a heads up that we opened the star ratings for everyone from now on, which practically means you don’t need to be registered to rate a map. This change however is subject to any suspicious/manipulative rating behaviour we might notice in the future. But for now, don’t hesitate to click on those stars!

Uploading content

The site design and coding has been completed, now we are busy uploading maps so we have a reasonably big database as soon as possible. This is a time-consuming process and we currently don’t have the resources to make it happen overnight. We are currently considering the possibility of finding volunteers to speed up the …
