Rating: 10.0/10 (1 vote cast)

Escape From The Cathedral is an apparent beginner’s map from a rather unknown Italian mapper Danilo Di Mascio. Up until the last section of this short level I thought that the author made this entirely out of unclipped box brushes. However, before the end came a spiral staircase and finally, the only relatively stylish part of the map, a massive cathedral interior with the final boss waiting at the altar. In this section I realised that the author even figured out he could build relatively nice arched ceiling by putting two arched brushes perpendicular to each other. We know how well it can work since the Temple of Vandora in Unreal. The texturing and lighting is not nearly as convincing here, but it indeed saved the map from being totally unremarkable. Just about.
